Distinctive Antiquities At Cayuse Western Americana

Since opening its doors in 1997, Cayuse Western Americana has offered Jackson Hole a museum-like setting to showcase one-of-a-kind antiques. Owned and operated by expert Mary Schmitt, the historic downtown store amazes customers with its collection of cowboy, Native American Indian and National Park artifacts. The trained staff can tell you the history and heritage of each unique item and take you on a cultural tour of America’s westward expansion.

Tucked away on North Glenwood, far from the crowd, is a special gallery highlighting the heritage of the American West. Cayuse is known for acquiring collector-grade and unusual Native American antiquities, early cowboy trappings, and hard-to-find National Park ephemera. The gallery, often described by customers as a museum, is filled with silver spurs, saddles, Plains bead-work and horse regalia, early photographs, and vintage western art. Cayuse has the best selection early of Yellowstone, Grand Teton and Jackson Hole items in the West. They are especially known for their old turquoise jewelry and silver and gold buckles. Rare and out-of-print books, folk art, and Navajo textiles round out the offering.

From their inception, Cayuse has focused on our National Parks and their legacy, sourcing vintage and antique photographs, artwork, and early souvenirs. They have watched as these items have climbed in value, and have become harder and harder for collectors to find. Cayuse is proud to be a leading source of antique National Park items, and they congratulate the National Park Service on it’s 100th year. They anticipate the collectible Park items of the next 100 years. Stop by and see their current National Park items and find your own vintage Park treasure.
